The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Kingston Health Sciences Centre was part of the CAP (Caffeine for Apnea of Prematurity) and PINT (Premature Infants in Need of Transfusion) trials and more recently, the MoBYDick (Effect of Maternal Docosahexaenoic Acid Supplementation on Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia–Free Survival in Breastfed Preterm Infants) trial. We were also one of the intervention sites in a cluster randomized controlled trial of family integrated care in Canadian NICUs. The lessons learned from that study have transformed the way we deliver care by integrating families as partners in the NICU care team.
