Members of our department staff outpatient clinics that serve children and youth up to 18 years of age. Much of our adolescent medicine research addresses questions related to the delivery of programs offered through these clinics and the effectiveness of interventions to address specific patient populations (e.g., those with feeding disorders) and modifiable lifestyle factors (e.g., vaping). Some of the studies that are currently underway or in the planning phase are listed below.
- Exploring rates of weight restoration at six weeks in a traditional family-based therapy model versus multifamily family-based therapy for adolescents with anorexia nervosa (led by A. Acker)
- Examining comorbidities in adolescents with anorexia nervosa and their impact on reaching target weights (led by A. Acker)
- Reviewing characteristics of adolescents referred to an eating disorders clinic who do not meet clinical criteria for having an eating disorder (led by A. Acker)
- Examining whether individuals with immune-mediated gastrointestinal disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease) are at increased risk of eating disorders (A. Acker, co-investigator; funded by the SEAMO Innovation Fund)
