Dr. Samaan is Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics, Queen’s University and Staff Physician, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Kingston Health Sciences Center. Dr. Samaan is cross-appointed to the Department of Medicine at Queen's University.
Dr. Samaan completed his pediatric endocrinology fellowship training at Sick Kids in Toronto. While at Sick Kids, he completed a Master’s degree at the Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Toronto. He also completed Postdoctoral Research Fellowship training at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, U.S.A as an International Research Scholar. Dr. Samaan then joined the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University, and served as a Pediatric Endocrinologist at McMaster Children’s Hospital before moving to Queen's University. He led the interdisciplinary type 2 diabetes program while at McMaster Children's Hospital and held the role of Director of Research and Scholarship, Michael G. De Groote School of Medicine, McMaster University.
In his current role, his clinical work involves providing tertiary endocrine care for children with diabetes, obesity, thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary disorders.
Dr. Samaan is a holder of the Queen's Chair in Pediatric Research and Education. Dr. Samaan leads a program of research that is focused on studying pediatric diabetes and obesity and the endometabolic aftereffects of childhood cancer therapy. the Program is involved in knowledge synthesis and dissemination through the conduct of systematic reviews and meta-analyses and digital innovation. He has received funding from several agencies including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Dr. Samaan has supervised many undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate trainees. He holds graduate student supervisory privileges at the Translational Medicine Graduate Program at Queen's University.
