Dr. Joshua Penslar joined Queen’s University in January 2024 as a full-time pediatric cardiologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics. He completed his medical training at McMaster University followed by pediatrics residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (University of Ottawa). Dr. Penslar underwent subspecialty training in fetal cardiology at SickKids (University of Toronto) before joining the faculty in Kingston.
Dr. Penslar practices general pediatric cardiology including the diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease, infectious/inflammatory heart disease, and arrhythmias. His particular focus is prenatal diagnosis of heart disease and associated aspects of family counseling and genetic evaluation. He is also a contributor to a number of national collaborative academic projects as a member of the Canadian Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology Research Network. Dr. Penslar’s other interests within medicine include palliative and end-of-life care, ethics, psychosocial aspects of illness, and medical education.
When not at work, Dr. Penslar enjoys music, gardening, crafting, and spending time outdoors with his family.
