Dr. Elmekkawi is a full-time Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Queens University and the division head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Lakeridge Health. 

He has completed his training and a master’s degree in Pediatrics between Egypt and UK in 2007. 

Dr. Elmekkawi passed the Neonatal-Perinatal exam and became a sub-specialist affiliate of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in September 2015. 

Dr. Elmekkawi completed a Neonatal-perinatal fellowship at SickKids hospital, University of Toronto, in 2016. 

He has completed the “SickKids Teaching Scholars Program” at the University of Toronto in August 2016. 

Dr. Elmekkawi is a recognized researcher and has received the “Deborah Chiu Research Award” in 2017. He is passionate about medical training to improve education in underserved areas and developing countries. 

His work includes work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, feeding clinic and the developmental follow-up clinic. 

Dr. Elmekkawi enjoys painting, reading, and travelling with his family.
